Er zijn er dus blijkbaar meer die het stuk waar ik het over had gelezen hebben, of hebben hun kennis uit andere bronnen. Een zeer ervaren 'NBer' van over het grote water, die al bekapt sinds de begindagen van Hiltrud Strasser mailde me het volgende:

But I've heard it said that since a horse will not weight a fractured coffin bone the hoof capsule will act as a cast and stabilize the coffin bone. Non-weighted hooves do contract (become smaller). The horse will begin to weight the foot as it feels it can. If the horse is not given any pain killers then it will be aware of how the injured foot truly feels and use it accordingly.
Yes, I do believe this to be true. I do not think a shoe can work any better than nature. A shoe may hide the injury and cause the horse to use the foot before it is fully healed.
The difficulty could be on the human side. The human would have to watch the horse walk on only 3 of its feet until it can begin to use the injured foot. Some people do not like to see a horse do this and would rather find another treatment....shoes, stall rest, pain medications, etc.
