Hi All
Unfortunately we have NO evidence that ANY available
drug/vitamin/supplement can prevent laminitis, nor stop its
progress. Many of us may have found that something seems to have
helped one or more cases of founder but there are so many factors
involved that successes may not be successes and failures may not be
failures.
Ten years ago my daughter suffered from ME and since there is
no "traditional" treatment for this condition we
tried "alternatives". In the end she recovered after 16 months
while on no treatment. If she had been on a treatment at the time,
I would no doubt have attributed her recovery to it. Laminitis is
very like this, but as I have said before, provided we do no harm
then we should try every possible avenue.
Some things may make horses less prone to developing laminitis and
some things may help the recovery of the changes in the feet.
Horses have the enzyme in the liver that can produce Vitamin C but
humans do not. There is no evidence that Vitamin C will prevent
laminitis but it is still theoretically possible that it could help
in a stressed animal, in one suffering from founder.
Having researched laminitis, there are many things that
theoretically might work and many people still use them even though
there are "newer" theories. I am interested in anything that anyone
feels has helped their horse. It is forums like this that, although
pretty unscientific, we might come up with something that
consistently can help.

(For interest, the "laminitis season" has started over here in the
UK - two of my clients horses in the last five days. I thought that
I had been doing well in my client education up until now!)
